Welcome to Bike Registry - Prevent Bicycle Theft
February 22, 2026
We're introducing Bike Registry — a platform built to make bike theft harder and ownership transfers safer. The problem is bigger than most cyclists realize: Sweden alone records around 55,000 bike thefts a year, and since fewer than 1 in 8 victims actually file a police report, the real number is closer to half a million. In Finland, police log around 14,000 bike thefts per year, with Helsinki alone accounting for 4,000 to 5,000.
The recovery rate without registration sits around 2–5%. That means for every 100 bikes stolen, 95 or more never come home.
Why a registry actually moves the numbers
A good lock buys you minutes — a cable lock falls to bolt cutters in seconds, and even a hardened U-lock can be cut by a portable angle grinder in under a minute. What a lock can't do is make the bike worthless to a thief. That's what bike registration does — and that's why a stolen bike registry, not a better lock, is what actually shrinks bicycle theft.
